英語的俚語或成語是日積月累，它們看起來很簡單，用順了就透露出我們對語言的熟稔和掌握度。每天記一個，一年也能記365個。

• At odds, 意見分歧、不和。

Odds的意思有很多，大家最熟的是「奇數」、「可能性」，可以衍申為不和或意見分歧。常見片語是At odds，意思即為"in disagreement with"。

She is at odds with her boss. 他與老闆意見不合。
This action is greatly at odds with his previous attitude. 這個舉動與他先前行為大相逕庭。
On many issues, John and Mary found themselves seriously at odds. John和Mary發現，他們在很多問題上有嚴重的分岐。

• call someone on the carpet 訓斥某人；譴責某人

call意指傳喚，carpet意指地毯；to call someone to the carpet是指把某人傳到地毯上，據說在1800年期間，一些英國的傭人，如果被主人叫到房間，就是被主人教訓。因為房間多半有地毯，故有這種說法。

You must be very careful to do your work well, or you will be called on the carpet for our boss is very strict with us.  你得非常認真地做好你的工作，否則你會受到訓斥。因為我們的老闆對我們要求非常嚴格。

He got called on the carpet for being late to work.  他因遲到而受責?。

• a par for the course 預料中的事情

par指常態、正常，標準桿也就是這個字， course指路徑，路程；a par for the course指順理成章，在意料之中。

The school budget is going to be cut again this year, but then that's par for the course.學校的預算又要被削減，但這是預料中的事。

  Mini- Scenario ：假設性的問題。

What if ...? 這樣的問題問得好，經常是讓對方解決問題或傷腦筋，會有不錯的互動效果。
結構︰What if＋主詞＋動詞

此句型意為"如果...的話怎麼辦呢。經常用在談判。

• What if it is true?  如果這是真的又該如何呢？
• What if he doesn't agree? 如果他不同意該怎麼辦呢？
• What if I say no! 如果我說不呢?
• What if we agree to a two-year contract? would you give us exclusive distribution rights?
  如果我們簽兩年約，你會給我們獨家代理權嗎？
